2025 College Football Odds: Back Longhorns To Eclipse Win Total

Is merely making it to the College Football Playoff enough for the wealthiest program in the sport? After consecutive playoff appearances, including two wins and a semifinal finish last season, the Texas Longhorns are finally aiming to capture the championship in 2025.

Just like their peers in the upper echelon of college football, Texas doesn’t drop games it should win. The Longhorns finished the 2024 regular season at 11-1, with their sole defeat coming against Georgia. The previous year, Texas also posted an 11-1 record, losing to a perfect 6-0 Oklahoma on the game’s last play. That’s just two losses during the regular season over the past two years.

This upcoming year, Arch Manning takes the reins of the starting position after spending two seasons behind Quinn Ewers. With only 90 passing attempts last season, Manning has generated significant excitement due to his elite physical skills, although starting for the first time can come with its challenges.

Last year, Texas’s offensive line was a finalist for the Joe Moore Award, but it had its share of inconsistencies. With four starters needing to be replaced, the team looks towards top-tier recruits and transfer portal players to step up.

Texas has faced losses at the receiver position due to NFL drafts, but head coach Steve Sarkisian has capable replacements on the roster. The running game has been reliable, and while the offense features untested talent, Sarkisian’s experience, alongside Manning’s capabilities, should help the unit click quickly.

On the defensive front, Texas sent five players to the NFL and is reloading with high-caliber talent. asus customer service philippines Linebacker Anthony Hill is set to anchor the defense, aided by freshman All-American Colin Simmons, who will lead as the primary pass rusher. Texas has utilized the transfer portal to enhance its defensive line and secondary, and I have confidence in Pete Kwiatkowski and his staff to have this defense competing at an elite level again this season.

Entering his sixth season as Texas head coach, Steve Sarkisian faces a schedule that suggests only two potential toss-up games, assuming upsets are uncommon. The Longhorns kick off their season against Ohio State and then face Georgia on the road in mid-November. okc thunder vs chicago bulls match player stats Ohio State is tasked with replacing a significant amount of production on both lines and at quarterback, so facing them early might favor Texas. However, I’m concerned about Texas’s chances of winning at Georgia, especially after losing twice to the Bulldogs last season. If they can split these games, Texas’s prospects tilt more towards an 11-win season rather than nine.

While contests against Florida and Texas A&M pose challenges, Florida currently has questions at quarterback, and I believe Texas A&M may lack the strength to win at Texas this year.

If I had to choose between betting the Over or Under on Texas’s season wins, I would lean towards the Over.

PICK: Texas Over 9.5 Regular Season Wins
